Antel will grant a special 25% discount to clients with contracts who receive unemployment benefits from the Social Security Bank (BPS) in any of its forms, the company reported in a statement released on Tuesday. The benefit will be applied to the monthly cost of the cell phone and / or internet contracts at home.
The 25% discount is available from this Tuesday and the procedure to access the discount is done through the web www.antel.com.uy/subsidio. This benefit will be available until March 31 and those who enter unemployment insurance within this period of time will also be able to have the discount, explained Antel’s president, Gabriel Gurméndez, to The Observer.
In order to be a beneficiary, clients must have a maximum of one month in arrears in the fee.
Once Antel’s client registers on the web, the process continues “automatically”, explained the chief. After the application, the company performs an online consultation with the BPS to confirm that the person is indeed a beneficiary of unemployment insurance and then answers to the client if they can access the benefit or not.
In case the answer is positive, the next invoice that reaches the customer will have the 25% discount. The beneficiary will receive the discount for three months.
The decision has to do with a “segment of our clients with whom we want to connect with their reality,” said Gurméndez.

Another plan that Antel announced on Tuesday is the Cuidarnos Plan, which includes discounts on cell phone and internet recharges exclusively for the month of February. Requests must also be made through Antel’s website and responds to the government’s “call” to stay “connected from home.”
For cell phone recharges, the plan offers 40 gigs for 14 days at $ 200; for internet service recharges at home, the plan is 50 gigs for 14 days for $ 150.
“It is a plan that is in tune with the recommendations that the government is making to try that people who are returning from their vacations have an incentive to reduce mobility and to help take care of each other,” Gurméndez explained about this plan.
The president of Antel stressed that during the pandemic the company took different plans depending on the “different circumstances”, such as the debt refinancing plan or the plans to stay at home.
