She mentioned that “Animal Freedom” has long indicated the need to ban the breeding of animals for fur production in Latvia. Among other things, signatures are currently being collected for submitting a petition to the Saeima in order to prohibit by law the breeding of animals in zoos for obtaining fur and decorative clothing items.

In Animal Freedom, the Dutch parliament said on June 23 it supported a faster end to zooing across the country, without waiting for the transition period to end in 2024, and provided compensation to owners of existing 128 farms to limit the risks of further spread of Covid-19 virus. The decision is made because farmed mink can become a reservoir for the spread of coronavirus – Covid-19 infection has been detected in 17 of 128 mink farms in the Netherlands.

“Animal Freedom” reported that the Dutch parliament had also decided to ban the transport of mink, excluding the introduction of new mink into farms where animals were slaughtered due to the Covid-19 epidemic.
