an eco-college in Coubert in 2022

The future college of Coubert will accommodate around 600 students. Work began last March.

Each year, the Department supports the municipalities in their construction, rehabilitation and development programs. At the start of 2021, Jean-Jacques Barbaux, president of the departmental council, announced the launch of the construction of seven new colleges, including one in Coubert (Seine-et-Marne). Indeed, studies carried out by the Department have shown that this municipality and its periphery needed new infrastructure. This will help relieve congestion in other establishments, in particular the colleges of Melun, Verneuil-l’Étang and Brie-Comte-Robert.

The future Coubert school, whose work began last March, will be designed by the Riff Architectures agency, near the RD 96 and the Coubert rehabilitation center. It will occupy an area of approximately 16,000 m². Funded by the Department to the tune of 25 M €, the project includes a half-board with a capacity of more than 600 people, a Section of General and Professional Adapted Education (SEGPA) that can accommodate 96 students, a Localized Unit for ‘Inclusion Scolaire (ULIS) (special class for the education of pupils with disabilities), as well as a playground and a courtyard. The new college will also house five official accommodation with private parking and a 50-space car park reserved for staff. To facilitate access to the college, a soft link will be created between the future establishment and the bus station.

The project is part of a sustainable environmental approach in order to limit the building’s carbon footprint, but also to offer a healthy and comfortable quality of life to users. Thus, it focuses, among other things, on the optimization of energy needs and the use of ecological building materials. All operations will thus be carried out in accordance with High Environmental Quality (HQE) certification.

The opening of the new college is scheduled for the start of the 2022 school year.
