On Friday, June 26, in Riebiņi region State Border Guard Sigma Task Force of the Special Operations Service of the Aviation Administration, providing support State Police Latgale officials of the Rezekne District Criminal Police Division of the regional administration detained an armed shop robber after prolonged persecution, the portal “Delfi” found out at the border guard.

The man was detained in the settlement of Galēni Parish, Riebiņi District, Malta Trūpi. He had robbed the shop, threatening the salesman with a firearm-like object.
During his detention, the man behaved aggressively, resisted and tried to seize a service weapon, as a result of which the border guards were forced to use physical force.
A gun-like object and a purse with money were found among the man.
The man was placed in a temporary detention facility by the State Police.
Criminal proceedings have been instituted under section 176 (4) of the Criminal Code for robbery if committed with firearms or explosives, or involving serious bodily injury to the victim, or if it has caused other serious consequences, such as the imposition of a custodial sentence for a period of five to 15 years, with or without confiscation of property, and with probation supervision for a period of up to three years.
