Amsterdam daycare close by parent infected with coronavirus NOW

A daycare center is closed in Amsterdam because one of the parents is infected with the COVID-19 virus. Because no third infection has yet been confirmed in the Netherlands, it is probably the woman who was announced on Friday that she is in home insulation in Diemen. For privacy reasons, the RIVM cannot say anything about the identity of this person.

An email from the daycare to parents shows that the child of the parent also shows symptoms of illness. In this case too, the RIVM cannot confirm whether corona virus is being tested.

However, if the child’s parent is a confirmed infection, the child itself will also be checked for infection with the virus. The mail from the day care center shows that the results of this test are expected at the end of the day on Friday.

The residence says in the email “to date” that they have no indications that other children have become infected, but it cannot exclude this either. To keep this risk as small as possible, the day care center has decided to keep the doors closed.

Two coronavirus infections are currently confirmed in the Netherlands. The first case was announced on Thursday evening, namely a man from Loon op Zand in Brabant. On Friday it was announced that a woman from Diemen was also infected with the virus.

The COVID-19 virus (coronavirus) in short:

  • The virus spreads mainly through cough and sneeze drops that hang in the air for a short time. Anyone who shows no symptoms is hardly a risk of infection.
  • Someone can infect two or three others on average (less than, for example, measles). However, this figure is falling due to all precautions.
  • The vast majority have mild (flu-like) symptoms.
  • Almost all deaths concern older or already sick people.
