Report from TribunAmbon.com journalist, Tanita Pattiasina

AMBON, TRIBUNAMBON.COM – Department of Health (Dinkes) Ambon City reminding residents to be aware of malaria. The disease is prone to appear during the rainy season.

Head of Health Office Ambon City, Wendy Pelupessy said, people need to be aware of malaria, especially when it rains.

“January-February there is usually an increase in cases, due to the change in the transition season,” Pelupessy told reporters in the office, Wednesday (19/1/2022) afternoon.

For this reason, Pelupessy appealed to residents to be diligent in cleaning mosquito nests (PSN) rather than waiting for fogging or fumigation.

“The appeal for the community to stick to PSN (Mosquito Nest Cleaning) is more important than voging or smoking,” he added.

He explained that fogging only kills adult mosquitoes while diligently cleaning mosquito nests can prevent mosquito larvae from becoming adults and breeding.

“Because of fogging, he only kills adult mosquitoes, but in one or two days the larvae mature again, but if we clean automatically there are no breeding places for mosquitoes and they cannot become adult mosquitoes,” said Pelupessy.
