Amazon is working on a potential rival for Clubhouse

Clubhouse, the social network that works by invitation, has been available on all Android devices since last May. In July, this networking platform acquired a private messaging system and, recently, it spoiled iPhone and AirPods owners by allowing them to enjoy spatial sound.

As a reminder, Clubhouse has enjoyed tremendous popularity, leading other networking platforms like Twitter, Facebook, Spotify and Discord to have live audio space in 2020. However, it seems that for now, none fails to destabilize Clubhouse.

Precisely, a recent report published by The Verge indicates that Amazon is in the process of designing an application that could well overshadow Clubhouse. This application would be called Project Mic.

Be the DJ of his own radio show

Amazon is reportedly working on a live audio application that could allow any user to have a radio show while having the ability to play or mix the music of their choice.

Specifically, creators could take advantage of the vast library available to them on Amazon Music. But in addition to music, creators will also be able to do radio shows on pop culture, sports or even comedy. Moreover, Amazon would consider bringing celebrities and influencers to these shows.

Users will be able to search for programs by just entering the name, or the subject or even the music. But Amazon will also display live content for each show, trending topics but also popular creators.

Radio shows will be available on multiple platforms

However, the report does not mention whether listeners must first subscribe to Amazon Music. However, it seems that Amazon wants to make the shows available on multiple platforms. Therefore, it seems unlikely that an Amazon Music subscription is needed.

Indeed, creators will be able to stream their shows not only on Project Mic, but also on compatible apps and devices like Amazon Music, Twitch, Audible and Alexa. Listeners on Alexa will even be able to interact with shows, even if they are in their car.

As of yet, Amazon has yet to reveal a launch date for Project Mic. Nevertheless, it seems that the application will initially be available on the American market before gradually extending to other countries.
