Already 510 Killed Since Myanmar Coup, Demonstrators Carry Out Garbage Attacks

YANGON – The number of victims killed due to the violence of the junta forces Myanmar has reached 510 people since the February 1 military coup. The data was released when demonstrators launched a new civil disobedience campaign by throwing trash into the streets, Tuesday (30/3/2021).

The data on the death toll was released by the Assistance Association for Political Prisoners (AAPP). This data is an accumulation of additional data on the death toll from civilians as many as 14 people on Monday. According to the AAPP, of the 14 victims killed, eight were in the South Dagon district of Yangon.

Witnesses said security forces in the area fired a much heavier-caliber weapon on Monday to clear sandbag barricades. It is not clear what type of weapon was used.

State television said security forces used “riot guns” to disperse a crowd of “violent terrorist men” who smashed through the sidewalk. State media often use terrorist narratives to label anti-coup protesters.

A South Dagon resident on Tuesday said more gunfire was heard in the area overnight, raising concerns about more casualties.

According to ReutersPolice and a spokesman for the military junta Mynamar did not answer calls seeking comment.

UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres urged Myanmar generals to stop the killing and suppression of demonstrations.
