I’m Upset You Called Me a Murderer

WASHINGTON – Russian President Vladimir Putin invited his US counterpart, President Joe Biden, for a telephone conversation earlier this year. It came after he was branded a murderer by Biden in an explosive interview that brought relations between the two leaders to rock bottom.

That’s revealed in a new book that reveals behind the scenes the first weeks of the Biden administration. The book, written by Washington Post journalists Bob Woodward and Robert Costa, was cited by US media.

In April, during the first bilateral phone call since the Democrat took office, Putin reportedly told Biden: “I’m upset you called me a murderer.”

The remarks follow Biden’s statements a few weeks earlier, when asked in an interview with ABC’s George Stephanopoulos if he viewed the Russian leader as a “murderer.” “Mmm hmm, yes,” Biden replied at the time.

The American president reportedly made a coy note, according to Woodward and Costa, simply saying that his comments were not something that was planned

“I was asked a question. I gave an answer. It was an interview on a completely different topic,” Biden replied Russia Today, Tuesday (21/9/2021).

In addition, Woodward and Costa claim that Biden’s top-level team tries to avoid unscripted events or lengthy interviews in order to avoid similar mistakes. The plan, they say, is equivalent to the “presidential cocoon” known as the “wall”.

Other disclosures filed by the pair include Biden finding his predecessor, Donald Trump, had installed a room in the White House residence so he could play virtual golf in his spare time.
