Already 48 people have died after being injected with the flu vaccine in South Korea

JAKARTA – Director of the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency (KDCA), Jeong Eun-kyung, said that at least 48 South Koreans died after receiving flu vaccine shots on Saturday (10/24/2020).

However, until now there has been no direct link with the vaccines given, so the vaccination program continues.

Referring to a study, KDCA said it did not find a direct link between flu vaccine injections and the 26 cases of deaths that had been investigated, so that the vaccine program was continued to prevent the occurrence of a flu epidemic along with the Covid-19 pandemic in winter.

“After reviewing the death cases so far, this is not the time to stop the flu vaccination program because vaccination is very important this year, given the Covid-19 outbreak,” said KDCA Director Jeong Eun-kyung, quoted from the Reuters website.

About 20 preliminary autopsy results from the police and the National Forensic Service showed that 13 people died from cardiovascular, cerebrovascular and other diseases not caused by vaccination.

The increase in deaths has led some doctors and politicians to call for a halt to the government’s campaign to vaccinate some 30 million of the country’s 54 million population.

While encouraging people to get the flu vaccine, Jeong suggested precautions that should be taken before getting the shot. Such as drinking enough water and telling health workers about any underlying medical conditions.

In addition, Jeong also advised people to wait 15 to 30 minutes before leaving the clinic where they receive the vaccine.

“If possible, try to get the flu vaccination during warm weather, because there is a concern that low temperatures can affect heart vessel disease and cerebral vascular disease,” he explained.

KDCA said 9.4 million people had the flu vaccine as of Friday (23/10/2020) in a program that started in September, with 1,154 cases of adverse reactions.
