Almost 43% of citizens voted in early voting in a referendum on amending the Constitution

According to the Central Election Commission of Belarus, almost 43% of citizens included in the voter lists voted in the early voting in the referendum on amending the Constitution, transmits Belarusian service of Radio Liberty.

Early voting at the republican referendum on changing the Constitution was held in Belarus on February 22-26. Those citizens who are not able to vote on the main day of the referendum on February 27 were offered to vote early. In this case, no confirmation of the reasons is required.

There is only one question on the ballot: “Do you accept amendments and additions to the Constitution of the Republic of Belarus?” There are two answers: for and against. For the first time since 2004, the bulletins have been printed only in Russian.

The decision taken in the referendum will be legally binding and will take effect ten days after its official publication.

On the voting list included 6 818 948 citizens of Belarus – 26 thousand less than in the 2020 elections. 5,510 precinct commissions have been formed throughout the country. Not a single representative of the opposition in their composition I failedand the lists of committee members classified. Also, the referendum will not OSCE observers. The Belarusian service of Radio Liberty notes that there are reports from different regions of the country that students and state employees are being forced to take part in early voting.

In her video message, ex-presidential candidate Svetlana Tikhanovskaya called on February 27 at 14:00 to come to the polls and actively protest against Russia’s attack on Ukraine.
