Ali Imron Explains Because Terrorism Is Hard to Disappear in RI

Jakarta – Bali Bombing I Ali Imron said terrorism is difficult to lose from Indonesia. Ali Imron said that there is a long history of causing radicalism in society to develop.

“(Deradicalization) I have done until now. That alone is very difficult to brake. So it is very difficult. Indonesia is different, different from our neighbor, Malaysia,” said Ali Imron to bluntly detikcom at Polda Metro Jaya, Friday (2/4/2021).

Ali Imron mentioned that the Islamic State of Indonesia (NII) was once highlighted and then banned. Ali Imron and his friends in Jamaah Islamiyah are the successors of the ideals of NII figures.

“The background of Indonesia was that there was an NII, there are successors, among them we, Jamaah Darul Islam. Even Jamaah Darul Islam was included as a DI / TII rebellion,” said Ali Imron.

“We are the ones who finally started the terrorist act by means of bombing in Indonesia. So the background there is different. Then there was also the riot in Tanjung Priok (year) 1984, rioting in Talang Sari, Lampung,” continued Ali Imron.

He said that these events had a significant impact on the spread of radicalism. Therefore, he continued, the handling of terrorism and radicalism in Indonesia is far different from that of neighboring countries.

“These riots have had a tremendous impact on developments that are considered – now the language is – radical. So they are different, very different when compared to other countries,” said Ali Imron.

He then shared that it was the horizontal conflict in Indonesia that motivated him and the JI group to go to Afghanistan. He said, from 1985 to 1996, there were hundreds of Indonesian citizens (WNI) who moved to Afghanistan.

“Likewise because of that background, from us went to Afghanistan. Hundreds of people from ’85 to ’96, I was the one who close up that, it’s not finished yet, “said Ali Imron.

“Once the Taliban came to power, start with JI people, namely Hambali and the late Mukhlas, the relationship with Osama (Osama bin Laden), send them back to Afghanistan,” Ali Imron continued.

Still he said, Ali Imron and his group later found people who were considered to have a struggle with them, namely the people in Mindanao, Southern Philippines.

“Then starting in ’94, we found a place in Mindanao, Southern Philippines, because there was jihad there, Uighur Muslims were against the government there,” said Ali Imron.

Ali Imron also asked the public not to raise wild issues when there was a terror incident. “Please don’t comment like that, for example if there is an act (of terror), ‘Oh it’s engineering’, ‘Oh it’s a conspiracy,” closed Ali Imron.
