That’s in Lenovo’s new X1 Thinkpads

Lenovo updated its X1 Thinkpads ahead of CES 2020. The Thinkpad X1 Carbon and Yoga receive, among other things, faster Intel processors, brighter displays and new function keys.

As usual, Lenovo has revised versions of the CES in Las Vegas of his X1 thinkpads in the luggage. The eighth generation Thinkpad X1 Carbon and the fifth generation Thinkpad X1 Yoga have only been slightly improved compared to their predecessors. Under the hood, Thinkpad X1 Carbon (2020) and Thinkpad X1 Yoga (2020) have Intel processors from the Comet Lake-U series, with optional six-core chips. These were already installed in the seventh generation of the Thinkpad X1 Carbon – after a corresponding one Update in autumn 2019,

Since these laptops were not available in Europe, this upgrade is a real innovation for the new X1 Thinkpads. Users can look forward to slightly higher clock speeds. There is a maximum of 16 gigabytes of RAM. The internal SSD holds up to two terabytes. Previously, a maximum of one terabyte was possible.

Thinkpad X1 Carbon and Yoga: Brighter displays

Also new are brighter display options for the 14-inch model. With the optional Privacy Guard display with Full HD resolution, for example, the luminance increases from 400 to 500 candelas per square meter. With the full HD touchscreen option for the Thinkpad X1 Carbon Gen 8, the luminance increases from 300 to 400 candelas per square meter.

Lenovo has also added new function keys to its current versions of Thinkpad X1 Carbon and Yoga. The keys F9 to F11 now contain hotkeys for phone calls. For example, users should be able to initiate video conferences faster. Lenovo specifies 18.5 hours in terms of battery life. What is new is that 80 percent of the service life should be able to be recharged within an hour.

For users who want to connect their Thinkpad laptop to an external monitor, Lenovo offers with the Thinkpad Trackpoint Keyboard II a keyboard modeled on the laptop keyboards. It can be connected via WLAN or Bluetooth. The battery life is specified up to two months. 15 minutes of recharging via USB Type-C cable should add another week of use. The keyboard can be used on up to two devices (Windows and Android) at the same time.

The Thinkpad X1 Carbon Gen 8 and Thinkpad X1 Yoga Gen 5 are expected to hit stores in 2020 and cost $ 1,499 (carbon) and $ 1,599 (yoga), respectively. There is currently no information about a start in Germany. According to Lenovo, the Thinkpad Trackpoint Keyboard II will be available in May and starts at $ 99.99.
