Al-Amry Farouk, Al-Ahly’s deputy chairman, stressed the eligibility of the Red Fort to win the Egyptian Premier League this season if a decision is made to cancel the season.
The Egyptian league has stopped temporarily since last March due to the outbreak of the new Corona virus “19”, and the suspension period is expected to end at the end of this month.
Al-Amri Farouk added in an interview with “On Time Sports 1” about the current season: “Al-Ahly has the right to win the league if the competition is canceled, the difference is great with the competitors.”
Farouk continued, saying: “If Zamalek or the contractors were at the forefront of this difference, then we would have agreed to give the leaders the title, and this is their right. The matter should not be viewed as competition between Al-Ahly and Zamalek.”
Al-Ahly’s vice president continued, “The matter is not currently the same as the canceled 1990 League or 2013 League, Al-Ahly was the leader in 90 and the Border Guard in 2013 and they did not win the title.”
And Farouk added: “The situation now differs because canceling the competition is not for internal reasons in the country, but it will be in view of the global epidemic, and that is why Al-Ahly has the right to crown the title, and the Football Association must assume its responsibilities in this matter.”
Farouk concluded: “The cancellation of the league will cause giant crises economically for clubs, and the Ministry of Sports has to cope with this matter. We are ready to resume the activity and are ready to help with prevention plans and precautionary measures.”
