Again Luhut Becomes Jokowi’s Choice

President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) once again appointed the Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment (Menko Marves) Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan became the head of a team formed by the government. Luhut is not leading a team formed by the government for the first time during the Jokowi era.

Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan was appointed by President Jokowi to be the Head of the National Movement for Proud Made in Indonesia Team. This is contained in Presidential Decree (Keppres) No. 15 of 2021.

Presidential Decree Number 15 of 2021 concerning the Proud National Movement Team Made in Indonesia was signed by Jokowi on September 8, 2021, a copy of which was seen by detikcom, Monday (20/9/2021). The Indonesian-made Proud National Movement Team, hereinafter referred to as the BBI Gernas Team, is under and responsible to the President.

The tasks of the BBI Gernas Team led by Luhut are explained in Article 3.

a. carry out activities to achieve the targets of the Proudly Made in Indonesia National Movement, hereinafter referred to as Gernas BBI, including:
1. increasing the number of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises/Small and Medium Industries including Creative Economy Actors who are included in the digital ecosystem;
2. an increase in the number of sales or purchases of local products;
3. increasing people’s purchasing power, market expansion, access to capital, training, data collection, and accelerating local economic cycles through local product spending; and
4. economic stimulus for Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises/Small and Medium Industries including the Creative Economy Actors Gernas BBI in accordance with the provisions of laws and regulations;
b. coordinate the Gernas BBI program with the Gernas BBI public campaign;
c. monitoring and evaluation of the implementation of the achievement of Gernas BBI targets; and
d. reporting data on the development of Gernas BBI.

The following is the complete composition of the BBI Gernas Team, chaired by Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan:

1. Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs;
2. Governor of Bank Indonesia;
3. Chairman of the Board of Commissioners of the Financial Services Authority;
c. Daily Chair: Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy/Head of Tourism and Creative Economy Agency;
d. Vice Chairman of the Daily: Minister of Cooperatives and Small and Medium Enterprises;

2. Minister of Home Affairs;
3, Minister of Law and Human Rights;
4. Minister of Finance;
5. Minister of Social Affairs;
