New warning: Storms will hit the Czechia on Sunday, rivers may flood again

Thunderstorms will hit by Czech Hydrometeorological Institute most of the territory of the republic except the regions on the western and eastern edge of the Czech Republic. The warning therefore does not apply to the Ústí nad Labem and Karlovy Vary regions and the westernmost parts of the Pilsen and Central Bohemia regions or to the Zlín region and the eastern parts of the South Moravian, Olomouc and Moravian-Silesian regions. The warning is valid from Sunday noon to midnight.

During storms, hail will fall, torrential rains will occur and the wind will have a speed of up to 90 kilometers per hour in gusts. According to CHMI, smaller streams can be flooded during storms, water can submerge roads and strong winds can uproot trees.

According to meteorologists, after thunderstorms, there is a risk of floods in the entire South Bohemian Region, most of the Pardubice Region and the easternmost corners of the Pilsen and Central Bohemian Regions from 6:00 pm on Sunday to 12:00 noon. CHMI originally warned in the morning that there is still a risk of floods in the northeastern part of the Czech Republic. But now he canceled the alert.

Heavy storms with heavy rains hit the eastern half of the Czech Republic on Friday evening and tonight. Firefighters in many places in Moravia and Silesia had to draw water from flooded houses or remove fallen trees.
