According to information provided to The Verge, the change is intended to make it easier to differentiate between the online service that comes with the Xbox and the Xbox Live Gold monthly subscription, which includes multiplayer gaming, among other things.
With the amendment, Sony will follow in the footsteps of Microsoft, as its rival has always made a clear distinction between the PlayStation Network web service and the PlayStation Plus monthly subscription.
