Advocate General requested life imprisonment against Pape Alioune Fall

The attorney general demanded a life prison on Friday against Pape Alioune Fall, tried by the tribunal de grande instance (TGI) of Tambacounda (east) for murder and attempted rape on Bineta Camara, whose death had moved a whole country in 2019.

The judgment is under deliberation on July 2.

According to the prosecution, the accused entered the victim’s home, where the drama took place, and climbed the fence of the house after ending the girl’s days.

Investigations and cross-checks of the scientific police and the prosecution prove that Pape Alioune Fall is guilty of the facts which he is accused of: having tried to rape Bineta Camara before ending his life.

On May 18, 2019, the girl’s lifeless body was found in her parents’ room, a scarf tied around her neck and her face covered in blood. According to the gender certificate of death issued during the investigation, Bineta Camara died by strangulation after an attempted rape.

At the helm, Pope Alioune Fall denies having attempted to rape her. Likewise, he dismissed the charge of murder against the girl he took, in his own words, as his sister. Mr. Fall said that he went to the Camara family’s home to discuss with Bineta Camara her “activist frustrations”, since he was a member of the same political party as her.

During the discussion, Bineta Camara grabbed him by his private parts, according to him. To defend himself, he propelled the girl onto the bed, where she collapsed, leaving the duel with an open wound on her face. He says he tried to “save” her, refuting any attempt to assault her.

Defense counsel Clédor Ciré Ly maintains that “the crime scene was made up because it was necessary to put a file on the office of the president of the criminal chamber” of the TGI of Tambacounda. “The investigation report provided in no way provided elements that could corroborate an attempted rape,” argued Mr. Ly. He requested the acquittal of his client, finding that there was no evidence to corroborate the alleged rape.

According to him, Pope Alioune Fall wounded the victim inadvertently. He asked that a prison sentence of two to five years be required against Mr. Fall.

For his part, André Tiakane, lawyer for the civil party, asked the criminal chamber to “rule on the truth”, because “the murder by premeditation does not suffer any dispute”. He claims the symbolic franc as damages.
