Activists throw soup on Van Gogh’s sunflowers in the London museum

After throwing the soup cans, the activists glued themselves to the wall where the painting hangs. Action group Just Stop Oil posted a video of the incident on social media. “Are you sometimes more concerned about the safety of a painting than about our planet and humanity?” Asks one of the activists.

Painting behind the glass

Van Gogh painted Sunflowers in 1888 in Arles, France. The value is estimated at over 85 million euros. There are several versions of sunflowers. There are three paintings with fifteen sunflowers and two paintings with twelve sunflowers. One of these was lost during the Second World War.

The painting was probably not damaged in London. The canvas is behind the glass, writes the British broadcaster BBC. There is some “small” damage to the frame. Police arrested the two women after their action.
