Radar, also known as Vehicle Attention and Safety Tracker (VAST), is a feature that detects violations such as using a mobile phone while driving or not wearing a seat belt. The Abu Dhabi Digital Authority and the Abu Dhabi Police have jointly developed radars that automatically detect traffic violations.

Alerts will come as a live SMS

The special feature of Vast Radars is that if you drive a vehicle without wearing a seat belt or talking on a mobile phone, the vehicle owner will be notified immediately. For example, if a person is driving without wearing a belt, an SMS message will be sent to the mobile as a reminder that you are not wearing a belt. It also suggests wearing a seat belt immediately. Similarly, mobile phone users will be notified in real time.

Radar can detect if the driver is talking on a mobile phone and is not wearing a seat belt, provided by high-resolution cameras. Radars analyze this information provided by the camera and instruct the offender to stop it. New radars are being installed in various parts of the city, police said.

Will there be fines for violations?

Police have not yet clarified whether fines will be imposed for violations detected by radars. Currently, the police have informed that the driver will be alerted via SMS if the radars detect any violation. Seat belts should be worn and mobile use discontinued as soon as the message is received. It is estimated that if the violation continues even after receiving the SMS message, there is a possibility of imposing a fine.

What is the current fine?
