Bernhoven Hospital in Uden warns other hospitals to be alert to symptoms of COVID-19 that are not yet widely known. “Be especially attentive to complaints such as chest pain, abdominal pain and diarrhea.”

The new insights come from three reports from Bernhoven hospital in Uden, the Amphia Hospital in Breda and the Elisabeth-TweeSteden Hospital in Tilburg. According to doctors, it concerns more people with these complaints than expected.

The characteristics of 107 COVID-19 patients were registered. The mean age was 71 years; 41% of them were women and the median duration of the complaints was 5 days.

19% of the patients were referred to a specialty other than lung or internal medicine. The symptoms were fever (78%), respiratory complaints (78%), chest pain (28%), abdominal pain (13%) and diarrhea (34%).

In SEH, 54% of patients had a temperature ≥ 38.0 ° C, 51% had CRP ≥ 50 mg / l, 12% had leukocytosis, and 61% had an increase in LD.

Lymphocytes were determined in 31 patients; 77% of them had absolute lymphocytopenia. Co-infections were seen in 16% of the patients. Mortality on the emergency room was 2% and 5% was recorded on the IC. On March 25, 2020, total mortality was 22% and IC uptake 15%.
