A 35-year-old woman and two young girls, including a seven-year-old girl, all three of German nationality, were killed on Saturday by an avalanche in the Val Senales, in the Italian region of South Tyrol (north), Italian media reports .
The three victims were skiing at midday on the Teufelsegg piste, located at around 2,400 meters above sea level on the Val Senales glacier, on the Italian-Austrian border, when the avalanche started and carried them away.
Found by the emergency services, around 70 rescuers supported by three helicopters, the 35-year-old skier and the seven-year-old girl, in advanced hypothermia, could not be revived on the spot.
The second child, whose age is not specified, who was able to be transported to a hospital in Trento (north) in serious condition, died in the late afternoon.
Two other people in the group were injured in the avalanche but their lives are not in danger, media said.
