A referendum on the transition to the euro is being collected in Croatia

Croatia is preparing a referendum

The Croatian government assures that the transition to the euro will eliminate currency risks, lower interest rates, and improve the country’s credit rating.

The Croatian party Hrvatski Suverenisti, which has conservative and Eurosceptic views, began collecting signatures for a referendum on the country’s transition from kuna to euro, in order to initiate a referendum, the party must collect 370 thousand signatures, reports Reuters.

According to Eurosceptics, it is too early to switch to the euro, because the country’s economy is not ready for this, and a sharp rise in prices may begin. At the same time, the Croatian government assures that the transition to the euro will eliminate currency risks, lower interest rates, improve the country’s credit rating and pave the way for more investment in the economy.

To collect the number of signatures necessary for the referendum, the political force, which has only four MPs in parliament, plans to deploy 250 locations throughout Croatia. You need to collect signatures by November 7.

The Croatian Cabinet notes that there is no point in holding a referendum, since the Croats have already agreed to switch to the euro when they voted in a referendum to join the European Union.

At the same time, according to a social survey conducted in July this year, more than 60% of Croats support the transition to a single currency, which is used by 19 out of 27 EU members.

Recall that the United States included Croatia in the program visa-free entry.
