Labs from around the world are launched in the race to try to find a vaccine against the
coronavirus. But even if one or more succeeds, it would not necessarily be welcomed in France. Indeed, according to
a study published on the website of the British scientific journal The Lancet, more than one in four French people (26%) would not expect to be vaccinated against
Covid-19.

The survey was conducted over the Internet with a representative sample of the French population aged 18 and over, from March 27 to 29.

The less suspicious elderly

Also according to this study, differences appear among the population. People with a low income, who are “generally more at risk of infection” according to the authors, are more likely not to want to be vaccinated against the coronavirus. In addition, women aged 18 to 35 are also particularly opposed to it (36%), who nevertheless have “a crucial role in the vaccination of children”.

Other education, people over 75, among the most at risk against the pandemic, are among the most confident (22% would not like to be vaccinated).

“Crucial” Communication

Finally, at political level, these are the people who voted for an extreme left candidate for the2017 presidential election who are the most suspicious (32%), as are those who abstained from voting (35%).

To avoid a strong rejection of the vaccine by the French population, the researchers cited by The Lancet consider it “crucial” that the government communicate the vaccine sufficiently early and transparently. If it ever happens.
