A public consultation for the future of the former Royal Victoria hospital

The Office de consultation publique de Montréal will be collecting citizens’ opinions on the redevelopment and rehabilitation of the former Royal Victoria hospital and the Allan Memorial Institute until November 21.

The two sites have been largely vacant since the relocation of the McGill University Health Center in 2015. They have since been at the heart of discussions to ensure the continuity of their contribution to the life of the community.

the redevelopment plan aims to rehabilitate old buildings as well as build new infrastructure. The plan provides for the development of green spaces and the opening to the public of outdoor spaces. The construction of a new swimming pool is also planned.

The work will also include the redevelopment of avenue des Pins and rue University. The redevelopment plan also provides for improvements to the surrounding bicycle network.

The privatization of premises for residential or hotel use is ruled out. This will ensure that the sites are accessible to the greatest number of citizens.

The redevelopment plan for the Royal Victoria Hospital includes McGill University’s New Vic project. This project involves the development of new teaching and research facilities for the university.

The plan includes a major heritage rehabilitation program to secure and renovate the historic buildings of the 19e century, emblematic of the site.
