In southern Lebanon, in the city of Tire, a series of explosions occurred in the Palestinian refugee camp of Burj al-Shimali. There are dead and wounded, reports Associated Press citing Lebanese National News Agency on Saturday 11 December.
The exact number of victims is not given, but an official from the security service, on condition of anonymity, said that the explosions could have killed up to 12 people.
According to initial reports, after the diesel fuel trailer caught fire, the fire spread to the mosque, which, according to local residents, kept the weapons of the Palestinian group Hamas. This caused the explosions.
The Lebanese army cordoned off the area of the incident.
Lebanon is home to tens of thousands of refugees from Palestine, including in 12 special camps. The Burj al-Shimali refugee camp was established back in 1955.
