Scientists have warned of a possible disaster because of the weakening of the Earth’s magnetic field, which is vital to protect life on Earth from solar radiation, and scientists have not yet found the cause of this weakness.

Scientists have said that the planet’s magnetic field has lost on average nearly 10 percent of its strength over the past two centuries, but the vulnerability is increasing more in a region stretching from Africa to South America.

As the regions of the South Atlantic have known a shrinkage of magnetic field strength over the past fifty years, this weakness has expanded and moved west.

Over the past five years, a second center of minimal intensity has evolved in southwestern Africa, which researchers believe indicates that anomalies can be divided into two separate cells.

Astronomers confirm that weakness in the Earth’s magnetic field can cause technical difficulties for satellites and space ships orbiting the Earth.

“This weakness has appeared in the magnetic field in the South Atlantic over the past decade, and in recent years it has been growing strongly,” Sky News quoted Dr. Jürgen Matzka of the German Research Center for Earth Sciences as saying.

He added: “We are very fortunate to have satellites in space to investigate the evolution of this phenomenon in the South Atlantic. The challenge now is to understand the processes that occur in the Earth’s core and lead such changes.”

Astronomers suggest that the change in the Arctic and Antarctic will have a role in the weakening of the Earth’s magnetic field. But that change does not happen in a short time, and it may take two centuries.

The European Space Agency said that this phenomenon occurred in the past, as the planet has witnessed similar changes throughout its history, indicating the weakness of the Earth’s magnetic field in the south of the Atlantic Ocean within the limits of natural levels.

In recent years, the movement of the magnetic pole has been so great that it forced the U.S. National Geophysical Data Center and the British Geological Survey to release an early early update of the global magnetic model in 2019.

The model, which represents the Earth’s magnetic field worldwide, is widely used in navigation systems and devices, such as smartphones, for debugging the local compass.

It is noteworthy that a few days ago, astronomers issued a warning about the sun entering a “catastrophic hibernation” period, which leads to its blocking and entering the lower stage of solar energy, which may cause freezing weather and earthquakes.

Experts believe that we are about to enter the deepest period of “receding” sunlight ever recorded, with the sunspot virtually disappeared, according to the British newspaper “The Sun”.
