A policeman was killed during a shooting in the Elhovo area, near our border with Turkey, “Nova TV” reported. The shooting between unknown persons and border patrol took place Tuesday night in a wooded area. According to unconfirmed information, it is a shooting with migrants or traffickers. The authors fled.
Around 8:35 pm on a Monday night unknown shot on the orders of the “Border Police” and a soldier guarding the border in the Golyam Dervent village area. As a result of the gunshots, the border police officer died instantly and the defense ministry officer managed to retreat from the scene and was not injured. They immediately went to the scene of the accident directed the closest border police officers.
No illegal immigrants were found during the search of the area. Deputy Mayor of the village of Golyam Dervent Ivan Fransozov indicated to BNT that almost all migrants pass through here every daywhich do not create tension among the local population.
The Turkish border authorities were informed of the incident and a meeting was held at the state border, with the aim of identifying and detaining the perpetrator. It is assumed that the author is in Turkish territory. The orders sent did not find illegal migrants in the area.
Interior Minister Ivan Demerdzhiev is on his way to the scene. In connection with the case, the official celebration of the National Police Day – November 8 – is canceled.
We remember this is the second serious incident involving migrants or more precisely with the illegal smuggling of migrants across the southern border this year, and since the summer there has been an increase in pressure along the southern border – Interior Ministry statistics report 86 thousand registrations refused since the start of the year.
