lend-lease for Ukraine will be different from the one that was during the Second World War – UNIAN

Lend-Lease can become a very serious help for Ukraine.

The US Congress finally approved lend-lease for Ukrainehowever, this assistance will differ from that which the United States provided to the allies of the anti-Hitler coalition during the Second World War.

About this in interview UNIAN was told by military historian Mikhail Zhirokhov.

“Then Lend-Lease was not only for the Soviet Union, but also for 14 or 15 countries. This was one of the factors that the Second World War went the way we see it. Because when Lend-Lease was introduced, in the UK they already in fact, there were no weapons, and the Germans, in fact, were already preparing a landing in Britain,” the expert noted.

Zhirokhov also noted that Lend-Lease could be a very serious help for Ukraine.

“If you look at the experience of World War II, then lend-lease will be a very powerful impetus for victory. The Americans have already announced that they will transfer weapons samples from the existing composition of those parts of the American army that are located in Romania and Poland. So we are talking about heavy armament, on the rearmament of the Ukrainian army to Western models,” the expert said.

Lend-Lease is a US state act that allowed in 1941-1945 to supply its allies in World War II with ammunition, equipment, food, medical equipment and medicines, strategic raw materials, including petroleum products without payment. All lend-lease deliveries were paid for by the US Treasury, the return of the remaining serviceable weapons and equipment should be made after the end of hostilities (in fact, the defeat of Japan). The main recipients of supplies under the Lend-Lease Act were the countries of the British Commonwealth of Nations and the USSR.
