A police officer was killed in an incident at the US Capitol

In the US capital, Washington, on Friday, April 2, one police officer lost his life in an incident next to the United States Capitol, during which a car rattled the fence of the Congress building complex and attacked law enforcement officers with a knife, reports TV3 News.

The incident took place on the afternoon of April 2, when a car hit two policemen who were at a checkpoint at the entrance to the US Capitol complex at the time. The car then crashed into a safety barrier.

Acting Chief of Police of the United States Capitol Yoganand Pitman

The suspect was hit by a car with two police officers and then crashed into a fence. He then got out of the car and attacked our staff with a knife. U.S. Capitol police shot the suspect – and he’s dead. “

Both Capitol police officers – unfortunately one of them – William Evans, who had worked in the Capitol police for 18 years, were not severely injured by the medics.

Pitman says both police officers were taken to hospital and unfortunately one of them has died from his injuries.

The attacker is a 25-year-old man named Noah Green from Indiana, a member of the black nationalist organization Islamic Nation. U.S. media reports that he wrote on the social network Facebook that he lost his job and suffered from mental health problems. He has also called the US government an enemy of black people. The investigation is still ongoing, but law enforcement officials do not yet see any signs of terrorism.

Metropolitan Police Chief Robert Konti points out that the incident does not appear to be linked to terrorism, but law enforcement is continuing his investigation.

On Saturday, April 3, the territory around the US Capitol buildings is closed – significant police and national guard forces have been sent there to maintain security. What happened the day before has brought back very recent events – January, when thousands of supporters of the then US President Donald Trump broke into the parliament buildingto prevent the appointment of President Joe Biden. One police officer and four rioters were killed in the clashes.

This time there were not a large number of legislators in the Capitol, most of them had gone on Easter holidays.
