Apple is preparing a small redesign of the iPhone screen saver for iOS 16, the presentation of which is expected next week at WWDC 2022. Mark Gurman gives us this information in his newsletter Power On : he speaks “Major improvements to the lock screen, including new wallpapers that can more or less behave like widgets. » Already hoped for last year, these changes would prepare for the arrival of another development: an always-on screen on the iPhone for the permanent display of some basic information, such as the time and the main notifications.

Mark Gurman explains that it was with the iPhone 13 Pro last year that Apple initially planned to offer an always-on screen saver – himself confirmed the rumors – but the functionality would not have been retained in the end. It’s possible that Apple deemed it too power-hungry for the ProMotion technology, which only drops to 10 Hz when displaying still (120 Hz for animations) unlike the always-on screen of the Apple Watch. which can go down to only 1 Hz. But precisely, it is rumored that the ProMotion technology could finally go down to 1 Hz on the iPhone 14 Pro: the planets should therefore end up aligning.
