A lack of vitamin D can increase the risk of getting covid, but it is necessary to get tested before taking the appropriate complex

An article was published in the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism, which states that more than 80% of patients who were admitted to one of the hospitals in the Spanish city of Santander with mild or severe forms of coronavirus infection during the first peak of the epidemic, suffered from a lack of vitamin D organism.

“It follows from the results of our work that it is necessary to monitor and compensate for vitamin D deficiencies. This is important for the elderly and chronic patients who are especially vulnerable to COVID-19. In addition, vitamin D supplements should be recommended for patients who have already contracted the novel coronavirus. This will have a positive effect on the condition of their muscles, bones and immunity, ”- said one of the authors of the study, professor at the University of Cantabria (Spain) Jose Hernandez.
Biologists also found that the likelihood of death from COVID-19 quadruples heart and vascular diseases. According to another study, there is a statistical link between a lack of vitamin D and an increased likelihood of dying from coronavirus infection. The possible benefits of vitamin D in COVID-19 is also indicated by the fact that the concentration of inflammation biomarkers in the blood of patients with a low concentration of this vitamin was higher than in those infected with coronavirus without such problems. Scientists hope that further study of these relationships will help them understand how much vitamin D deficiency is associated with the severity of coronavirus infection, as well as develop measures that would slow down the spread of COVID-19 around the world.
However, doctors warn that you cannot prescribe this vitamin yourself. Its deficiency can be detected, for example, when taking an analysis for the content of the thyroid hormone calcitonin in the blood. If it is lowered, then the endocrinologist can say with a high degree of probability that the patient’s body lacks calcium and vitamin D. The person will be shown a long-term intake of the appropriate vitamin complex. But there is good news – a low level of this hormone indicates that, most likely, a person does not suffer from cancer, while an increased level should alert. The symptoms of a lack of vitamins are too vague, so the analysis is required, otherwise you can only harm your health.
