Toyists Forced to Move Again for Ukrainian Refugee Shelter at Dennenoord Site in Zuidlaren

The Toyists have to move again to the Dennenoord site in Zuidlaren. The international art movement has to make room for 35 Ukrainian refugees. The city of Tynaarlo and the mental health institute Lentis are still considering refugee shelters. But he expects the Ukrainians to move in on July 1.

Spokespeople for Lentis and the city indicate that the refugee shelter in the Vredestein building has not yet been finalized. “Consultations are still ongoing,” they reveal.

But for the Toyists, the adventure in the former women’s pavilion is over after four years. Landlord Lentis has indicated that the building must be cleared by May 10. The artists have now assigned another location on the Dennenoord site.

By keeping 35 Ukrainians in the Vredestein building, which is located at the back of the mental health care site, the city of Tynaarlo is creating a third reception area for this group of refugees. For about two years, 215 Ukrainians have been camping at the Eswal campsite in Vries and at the Akenveen campsite in Tynaarlo. In Vries they live in pedestrian huts, and in Tynaarlo it concerns small houses. According to a municipal spokesperson, there are also 35 Ukrainians who live with private individuals.
