A gang that stole vehicles and sent them to the DR is dismantled in New York

The New York Police dismantled a gang that was dedicated to stealing vehicles, most of the Honda brand and of the year, which were mostly sent to the Dominican Republic, according to the authorities.

In the operation carried out in the Bronx, nine people were arrested and 12 Honda CR-V brand SUVs recovered. These vehicles were mostly stolen in Washington Heights and from there taken to various parking lots in the Bronx, before being shipped to the Dominican Republic, authorities said.

Jorge Rodríguez, lieutenant of the New York Police, informed Telemundo 47 that the investigation began in June 2019 when they realized that many vehicles were being stolen, “specifically Hondas, of the year, they were disappearing and they were ending up in the Bronx ”.

Rodríguez explained that the criminals entered the cars and through a computer reprogrammed their keys and thus stole them.

“They had a computer to program the keys and when they programmed those keys, there they could start the vehicle and take it away. We use cameras, telephones, a lot of new technology to be able to identify these individuals that we were able to arrest today ”said the police officer.

The identity of those arrested was not immediately provided and it was anticipated that the investigation will continue and that there could be more arrested people involved. Several of those arrested were apprehended in other states outside of New York.
