Dust Storm in Egypt: Social Media Activists Share Terrifying Videos as Air Pollution Increases

Social media activists in Egypt circulated a series of videos from the Suez Canal area, which can be described as “terrifying”, of the dust storm that struck different regions of Egypt on Thursday.

And the strong winds that stirred sand and dust caused a decrease in the level of visibility, at a time when an official at the Egyptian Meteorological Authority revealed that this wave would continue until the early hours of next Saturday morning.

The maximum temperature recorded today in Greater Cairo was 40 degrees Celsius.

The Egyptian Minister of Environment, Yasmine Fouad, said that air pollution increased 10 times more than normal for the first time in the history of Egypt, as a result of the phenomenon of climate change, and the dust storm that occurred in the governorates of Egypt, noting that “the scene that we saw today because of the dust storm is new to us, but it It is nothing new to the phenomenon of climate change.

She explained that “a project to manage air pollution will be announced next Monday, in light of efforts to combat climate change, and that the ministry is following up on air quality indicators through the continuous monitoring system of the Ministry of Environment, which is spread across many parts of the country.”

Manar Ghanem, a member of the Meteorological Authority’s Media Center, said yesterday, Thursday, that “Egypt is affected by a desert depression from the Western Desert today (yesterday Thursday) and tomorrow, Friday, in addition to southern air masses that lead to a noticeable rise in temperatures in most regions of the Republic.”

And the Meteorological Authority in Egypt had warned of a severe rise in temperatures in Cairo, the northwestern coasts and Lower Egypt, noting that the reason for the climate fluctuations that Egypt is currently witnessing is due to some air masses coming from the eastern or western desert.
