On September 21 just after At 6 am, a fire broke out in the Media Expert store at ul. Węgierska 79. Firefighters fought the fire for over five hours. The store burned down almost completely, but luckily no one was hurt. The cause of the fire has not yet been established.
Today, fire sirens woke the inhabitants of a part of Nowy Sącz. The Municipal Headquarters of the State Fire Service in Nowy Sącz received the notification at 6.37 that at ul. Węgierska 79, the Media Ekspert store is on fire. Units from OSP Biegonice, located one kilometer away, reached the destination the fastest.
– Firefighters noticed puffs of smoke coming from the entire perimeter of the roof. They tried to enter through the front door, but due to the dense smoke and high temperature, it was impossible. The fire was already on the entire surface of the flat roof – reports Brig. Paweł Motyka, Deputy City Commander of the State Fire Service in Nowy Sącz.
Metal elements of the ceiling collapsed quickly into the building and the fire spread also to the display part of the store. Firefighters extinguished the fire by using a hoist, cooling the roof of the building, and running water and foam through the three front doors.

– When we managed to cool the roof, holes were cut through which we managed to partially smoke the room – adds Motyka.
The firefighters managed to get inside and remove some equipment from the warehouse. Everything that was on store shelves has been destroyed. Even if the electronics did not reach the fire, it would melt as a result of the high temperature.
– We do not have any information about the losses yet. Currently, all activities with the police and fire brigades are underway – emphasizes Media Ekspert spokesman Michał Mystkowski. The popular household electronics chain has two stores in Nowy Sącz: At ul. Węgierska and Prażmowski.
From important information, it should be emphasized that no one was hurt as a result of the fire. The store was still closed and electronically guarded in the morning hours.

A total of 23 fire crews extinguished the fire for about seven hours. They have, among others, prevent the fire from penetrating into the oil boiler room that supplied the building. The cause of the fire is still unknown. They performed for over seven hours traffic obstruction ul. Hungarian.
