The French comedy written and directed by the Franco-Senegalese Maimouna Doucoure at his directorial debut, he tells of the life of little Amy, 11-year-old Senegalese who joins the dance school of the school nicknamed ‘cuties’, ‘carine’ (in the original language ‘mignonnes’), confiding in her femininity and entering into conflict with a family with traditional Muslim values.
But it is not history that has triggered the storm: they are a sexualized poster for the international market, with girls in ‘provocative’ poses and skimpy dresses, and the scene from which it comes: an inappropriately sensual dance, Twitter and Instagram users insist, aimed at adult users. “Encourage pedophilia”, the disappointed followers tweet, “those twerk scenes that little girls had to do over and over in front of a crew of men without anyone protecting them, where were the adults?”. All the more so if 650 girls did the castings for the dance scenes in tops and underwear.
A petition has started, accompanied by a hashtag: #cancelnetflix. 660,000 people have already signed it, and the hashtag is the first trending app on the Twitter app today. Critics retort that the will was precisely that of denouncing an environment that can be hyper-sexualized, that of dance, especially in an age in which young women would do everything to integrate. But the hashtag does not collapse, and the requests are many: to remove a dangerous production from the platform. For this reason, Netflix’s price today is 9 billion lower than yesterday, and Imdb lists the film among those ‘parental guidance’ for the sex / nude category.
