On Thursday evening, the police fired several warning shots in the vicinity of the Lorentzkade in Leiden when two men were arrested. They are suspected of a robbery in Amsterdam-West, reports the Royal Netherlands Marechaussee. The car of the two has been chased by the police from Schiphol to Leiden.

On Thursday evening, officers and staff of the Royal Netherlands Marechaussee were busy with a joint inspection around Schiphol Airport. They were notified that a car involved in an armed robbery in Amsterdam passed the airport.
After the car was spotted, officers were hit behind the car. The occupants ignored multiple stop signs on the A4 and A44 and increased speed, the State Police said. Eventually, the car came to a halt in Leiden on the Van den Brandelerkade and both occupants fled in different directions.
Firearm and 40,000 euros found
Constabularies and officers went after the two and fired several warning shots to overpower them. In the Kapteynstraat, a suspect with a loaded firearm, approximately 40,000 euros in cash and drugs was found.
The police do not yet know who the two men are. They have been handed over to the Amsterdam police, who are investigating the armed robbery. A spokesperson is not yet able to provide more information about what happened in Amsterdam, because the investigation is still in progress. The suspects and the victims are still being questioned.
