Aldi Talk sells refurbished iPhones on its own website at supposedly low prices. A closer look reveals, however, that the offer is not worth it.

If you’re looking for an iPhone but can’t put as much money on the table, you may end up at Aldi Talk. Aldi’s cellular offshoot
sold on his homepage
refurbished iPhones for apparently little money. The models 6S and 7 are offered. The iPhone 7 is sold by Aldi with 128 GB memory for 349 euros, the iPhone 6S with the same memory size for 229.95 euros. But before you hit the supposed bargain, there are a few things you should consider.

Refurbished is not new
The Aldi Talk iPhones are completely overhauled, i.e. used devices. Although they go through a test procedure in which they are checked for damage and, if necessary, repaired, they cannot be compared to new goods. There is nothing in itself against a second-hand device, but you should be aware of the disadvantages.
No guarantee from Apple
Aldi iPhones are almost certainly no longer covered by Apple’s warranty. If the seller has not taken out Apple Care insurance before the sale, you will not be able to make a warranty claim with Apple (note:
Apple Care +
is currently only available for the iPhone 7 and newer, iPhone 6 and 6S are no longer covered by the Apple Police). Here, however, Aldi Talk helps, because they offer a 24-month guarantee on their devices.

Battery consumable
In a smartphone, the battery is the component with the fastest wear. These are consumable components that lose capacity over time. Aldi Talk will certainly not sell devices with broken or heavily used batteries, but you have no guarantee that a new battery with 100 percent performance will be installed. So it could be that the battery life is lower compared to new goods.
The expensive bargain
Even if the price, especially for an iPhone, looks very cheap at first glance, Aldi Talk’s offer is quite expensive compared to other providers. At Amazon you can get one
buy refurbished iPhone 7 with the same memory size of 128 GB for 239 euros,
So 110 euros cheaper.

So if you’re just looking at the price, you’d better hit there. But this offer also has disadvantages. The guarantee is only one year, compared to the two years at Aldi Talk. In addition, the product is stated as a differential sale. What that means and what you have to consider with such an offer,
iPhone SE as an alternative
If you value a new device and have a little more money at your disposal, you might want to go for the iPhone SE. This is available from 479 euros and is technically much better equipped than the iPhone 6S and 7. In addition, it is more future-proof because it will be updated by Apple for several years.
