In May this year, the average monthly temperature is expected to be around and above normal. It is between 16 and 19 degrees in most of the country. Temperatures around 15-16 degrees are expected along the Black Sea. In the mountains, they will be from 2-5 degrees in places above 2000 meters and up to 12-14 degrees in the lower ones.
In most of the country, the average monthly amount of precipitation will be around the norm. The monthly rate of precipitation is between 50 and 70 liters per square meter. Along the Black Sea and the Struma river valley, it is between 30 and 50 liters per square meter. In mountainous and sub-mountainous areas – from 70 to 140 liters per square meter.
During the first ten days of May, temperatures will be close to normal. It will be relatively warmer at the beginning of the ten-day period, and relatively cooler in the second half of the period.
It will be unstable, on most days with an increased probability of precipitation accompanied by thunder, mainly in the afternoon hours, at first in more places in Western and Central Bulgaria, and by May 6-7 – in Eastern Bulgaria as well. On some days, the phenomena will be more intense.
After a relative stabilization of the atmosphere at the end of the first and the beginning of the second ten-day period, from May 12 to 16 the air mass will again be unstable, with an increased probability of short-term precipitation and thunder, in more places in southern and eastern Bulgaria. There will be more sunny hours in the morning. Subsequently, until the end of the ten-day period, the probability of precipitation decreases, and temperatures will rise, writes BTA.
During the first half of the third ten-day period, the tendency is for rainfall to be low and temperatures to gradually rise and be higher than usual. Towards the end of the month, the probability of a more unstable atmosphere and changeable weather, with precipitation, is greater, predicts Marijana Popova.
