Wiesbaden – Grandchild trick, shock phone calls, inheritances worth millions in Africa – scammers are always coming up with new methods to cheat unsuspecting people out of their money. The police in western Hesse are now warning of a new scam involving the Internet sales portal “Ebay classifieds”.
“The new scam is currently increasing,” report investigators from the entire area of responsibility of the West Hesse police headquarters (Wiesbaden, Rheingau-Taunus, Main-Taunus, Hochtaunuskreis, Limburg-Weilburg).

What distinguishes the new trick from “classic” online trade fraud, such as the “sale” of non-existent goods: the perpetrators try to rip off sellers.
And it works like this: The criminals come to an agreement with providers on “Ebay classifieds”, then pretend that there is a problem with the payment process. In order to remedy this, the seller is then supposed to click on a link sent via SMS, email or messenger to a deceptively real fake “Ebay classifieds” page.
