Lufthansa flight from South Africa: passengers have left Munich Airport | Regional

Munich – The passengers who landed in Munich on a Lufthansa flight from Cape Town (South Africa) on Friday evening left the airport, according to a spokesman. There were around 300 passengers on board.

Some of them traveled on from the airport to countries in the non-Schengen area.

Another part of the passengers on the A350 is at home or in a hotel in and around Munich and is in quarantine.

“Some passengers also traveled on from the airport within the Schengen area. Decisions about infection protection measures must then be made at the destination, “said the airport spokesman.

The passengers represent a special case after the virus variant Omikron, which was classified as worrying by the World Health Organization (WHO) and was detected for the first time in southern Africa, is a special case.

It was the first flight from the Munich region after the problem became known. And it was also the last scheduled flight that landed before the new rules on virus variant areas came into force. After the entry into force, the airlines are essentially only allowed to fly in from the countries in question, whether they are German citizens or people living in Germany.

The Bavarian Ministry of Health ordered strict test and quarantine regulations for arriving passengers from Cape Town on Friday. All those entering Germany in Munich had to undergo a PCR test. A 14-day quarantine also applies in the event of a negative PCR test result.

Bavaria’s Minister of Health Klaus Holetschek (57, CSU) referred to a handout from the Federal Ministry of Health, which is published on the website of the Robert Koch Institute. After that, the local authorities can take appropriate action, even though South Africa was only declared a virus variant area from 12:00 a.m. on Sunday.
