In the city of Groningen, the Netherlands, a 12-year-old boy won a lawsuit for the right to be vaccinated against COVID-19 in order to be able to visit his dying grandmother. About it informs BBC on Friday, September 24th.
The child wanted to spend as much time as possible with his grandmother, who has metastatic lung cancer and who is “in the last stages of her life.” However, his father opposed, arguing that the vaccines are “in the testing phase”, that they “pose a danger” to the reproductive organs and that they “have no scientific basis.”
The judge ruled that the child should be vaccinated as soon as possible, since his interests are more important than those of his father.
Note that vaccines in the Netherlands are approved for adolescents aged 12-17, but children under 17 require both parental consent. The boy’s mother supported his claim, but the couple are divorced. According to Dutch law, if the parents cannot agree, the judge must make a decision in the best interests of the child.
