Ukraine wants to launch high-speed motor ships between the regions along the Dnieper / GORDON

The purpose of such routes is primarily tourist. They are planning to launch the first route Kiev – Kanev with stops in other cities.

“The final idea: so that these ships go more often and there would be such routes, when people, for example, leave in Pereyaslav, they have a tour of museums for several hours, then they go to Kanev – there are also excursions,” she explained.

It is tentatively planned that the travel time from Kiev to Kanev will be two hours.

“There are pleasure boats that run around Kiev today. They will take about five hours to get to Kanev. And this is a very long time, because you can get there by car in three hours,” Oleskiv said.

According to her, now specialists are studying logistics along the Dnieper. The State Tourism Agency communicates with the owners of such boats, as well as with potential investors from Western Europe.

“Raketa” – a series of high-speed Soviet hydrofoils. Serially produced in the 1950-1970s. In Ukraine, they walked along the Dnieper and Southern Bug rivers.

In the 1970s, more than 150 “Rockets” flew in Ukraine. But after the 1990s, this type of transport became economically unprofitable, and most of the ships were sold abroad, he said. River carriers explained that river transport is unprofitable, in particular, because of the excise tax on each liter of diesel fuel (initially – the tax of motorists intended for road repairs). As of 2018, there were only four Rockets left in Ukraine.

In 2020, the then Minister of Infrastructure Vladislav Krykliy announced revival of river transport with the help of Raketa ships. “Everything will be a rocket,” he wrote on Facebook at the time.

In December 2020, Rada adopted a law on inland waterway transport, which, according to the people’s deputies-authors, will “launch” river transportation. According to Krikliy’s calculations, this law will allow Ukraine to receive additionally to the state budget up to UAH 16 billion annually, while unloading the roads, as well as will ensure the development of passenger river transport, including international.
