It is estimated that about 900,000 pangolins (an endangered mammal) have been sold illegally in the past two decades in Southeast Asia, a non-governmental organization (NGO) said today.
“Not a day goes by without wild animals being captured in Southeast Asia and the numbers are often impressive,” said Kanitha Krishnasamy, director of the Traffic organization in the region.
According to NGO data collected over the years, it is believed that more than 895,000 pangolins trafficked between 2000 and 2019 in the region.
