What will NYC do to resist a second wave of coronavirus?

“What we need is financial relief. We need to tax billionaires so we can help small businesses,” said Queens State Sen. Jessica Ramos.

This was the reaction of local politicians to the governor’s ordinance that will close gyms and restaurants on a curfew from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m., across the state.

This initiative began this Friday to control what Cuomo called “a sea of cases” of coronavirus.

Although they will be able to fill out or take out orders without alcohol, those in the industry expect losses that could jeopardize their survival.

Bárbara Sibley, chef and owner of the La Palapa restaurant, commented: “At least we are going to lose 30% of the diners who will not arrive. Better to limit the number of people at the tables, not other things.”

Others point out that the increase in infections is due to the lack of cooperation with security measures.

“I lost relatives: my uncle, my two cousins who lived in Corona and that’s why I think I can’t open here because it has to be outdoors. I think the mask does work”, José Ángel Amigón, who is manager of a restaurant.

Also restricted are the hours of liquor stores and gatherings of more than 10 people, including those for Thanksgiving and the holidays, which some plan to observe.

Governor Cuomo did not rule out additional measures that could be announced as of this coming Monday as a result of the meeting with the governors of the northeast region of the country.
