6 Days and Counting: Efforts to Extinguish the Airport Road Warehouse Fire Amid Challenges

6 days since the “disaster” of the fabric and sponge warehouse fire on the airport road, and efforts to extinguish it are still continuing, amid great difficulties facing civil defense men and firefighting personnel of the Suburb Regiment.

The very high temperatures surrounding the burning building impede the extinguishing operations, amid the expansion of the fire to the warehouses of the global cooperative and the burning of a large part of it yesterday.

The fire that killed the martyr Muhammad Badi in the civil defense, on its first night, Tuesday, forced dozens of families to leave their homes and shops and forcibly flee from the place, after columns of black smoke, with its toxic substances, entered the homes and rooms.

The residents are calling for intensified civil and municipal efforts to control the fire, amid the danger of the building collapsing due to the cracking of its foundations due to the continuation of the fire and its renewal from time to time.

Informed sources revealed that the most prominent problem was “the huge size of the warehouse, in addition to the lack of legal conditions in it, and its lack of public safety principles, as the goods in the warehouse are stored randomly.”
