At a time when the country is in the throes of an acute political crisis coupled with an unprecedented health crisis afflicting the morale of Tunisians which is already at half mast because of the darkness that they continue to grind throughout the day , the commemoration of the epic of Ben Guerdane comes back to our chest so much this episode where the blood of security and soldiers mixed with that of civilians to defend the city against the onslaught of terrorists who came to establish a Daesh emirate there testifies that the Nation is in perfect agreement with its army and its security forces in the fight against terrorism!
It is today that the town of Ben Guerdane commemorates the 5th anniversary of the epic of March 7, 2016, when the blood of security personnel and the military mixed with that of civilians to defend the city against the onslaught of terrorists who came to establish a Daesh emirate there. Events that have toured the world and have shown that Tunisia remains a bulwark against the takfirists. Twenty martyrs (13 soldiers and 7 civilians) fell in the battle of Ben Guerdane, against 50 terrorists killed and 7 others arrested.
By receiving, on Friday, at the Palace of Carthage, representatives of the families of the martyrs and wounded of the epic of March 7, 2016 in Ben Guerdane, the President of the Republic Kaïs Saïed recalled the heroic act of the inhabitants of the city of Ben Guerdane and the courage they showed alongside the security forces and the army in the fight against terrorists during this battle. The Head of State noted on this occasion that the events which were triggered in this city proved to everyone that the State is homogeneous and that it resists attempts to make it fail.
He affirmed the will to continue the fight against terrorism and terrorists as well as their accomplices and the imperative to overcome the causes at the origin of this phenomenon, in particular intellectual terrorism.
Indeed, now that the people have an eye on the terrorists and that our valiant soldiers, security forces, police and customs, patrol on all fronts in the hunt for Daechians, we must finish the job and rid the country of the enemies of freedom, of life. Now that the mobilization of our security forces is strong, intense and even exceptional, the result must be edifying. The lesson inflicted on the terrorists must be exceptional and painful. And the message to the forces of evil clear.
Yes, our nation is strong and who rubs against it, pricks itself on it. The events of Ben Guerdane have also aroused a tremendous citizen enthusiasm, not only in the streets of the city affected by the cowardly attacks, but also through the thousands of candidates who offer themselves every day for enlistment in our armies. . It is a sign of confidence in the country and in the military institution. Because our forces have shown firmness and courage and they have done so with discernment, competence and coolness. Because, our soldiers and our police officers are not simply combatants sent on the ground but defenders of an ideal, the greatest: that of the fatherland.
