Two 17-year-old adolescents visiting from the state of Virginia were injured by stray shots in a Bronx playground on a violent Monday night and yesterday the situation was even worse, adding four gunshot deaths in a span of just three hours in NYC.

The last bloody streak was experienced last night between 10:45 p.m. on Tuesday and 1:10 a.m. today, Wednesday, in El Bronx y Brooklyn. The first homicide occurred in the Wakefield neighborhood of the Bronx, where cops found a 31-year-old man with a gunshot wound in the 600 block of East 234th Street. He later died at St. Barnabas Hospital.

Minutes later, in the 100 block of Thomas Boyland Street in Bed-Stuy, NYPD found a 29-year-old man shot in the leg. He later died at Brookdale Hospital. Shortly after midnight, in the 200 block of Lincoln Avenue in the Cypress Hills neighborhood, a 24-year-old man was shot in the torso. He passed away at Jamaica Hospital.

And shortly after 1 a.m. this morning, Melquan Cooper, 34, was fatally shot in the torso in the 2300 block of Grand Concourse, reported NBC News.

The day before, the teens were at Clay Playground on East 163rd Street when a brawl on the nearby basketball court between several people, during a casual game around 8 p.m. Monday, police said.

Two large groups of men began to argue in court, when one of them pulled out a gun and opened fire, causing dozens of people to flee. One of the minors suffered a scratch on the head and the other was shot in the thigh, according to police. They were rushed to Harlem Hospital in stable condition.

Violence “It is becoming so big that you can no longer do anything outside”

The violence “It is becoming so big that you can no longer do anything outside”, said a neighbor New York Post. “And it’s hot, so I guess they’ll shoot more kids.”

Yesterday afternoon, there were abandoned shoes, balls and other items still scattered on the court. The doors had been closed by the NYPD since the night before. The gunman was still at large and unidentified. The victims told police they did not see the shooter, but were found sixteen shell casings at the scene, according to sources.

The minor tourists were part of at least five people shot in four separate incidents during a violent night in the city on Monday. These figures confirm the Expert fears that New York is going to experience a spike in violence this summer, both with firearms and white.

After the increase in shootings in 2020 and 2021, particularly among young gang members and/or victims, 2022 continues with the same trend, putting up a great challenge to the new mayor Adams, who since taking office in January has found obstacles within his own Democratic party y Black Lives Matter (BLM) leaders to face the crisis.
