30,000 free pulse oximeters will be distributed in pharmacies

The Italian Society of Pneumology, in collaboration with Federfarma, launches the initiative. 30,000 free pulse oximeters will be distributed in pharmacies. The Ministry of Health communicates the admirable initiative. ProiezionidiBorsa, always attentive to the health and well-being of its readers, explains what this initiative consists of 30,000 free pulse oximeters distributed in pharmacies.

This small object, which has now become indispensable for everyone at the time of Covid, allows you to immediately understand if the Covid symptoms are worsening. In fact, as soon as the epidemic began to spread in our country, the race to buy not only masks, but also the oximeter began. With prices even doubled!

The importance of this tool

The oximeter, as the word itself says, is used to measure the oxygen saturation in arterial blood and simultaneously the heart rate. This small object, now known by all, is of considerable importance, almost like the thermometer, especially in case of respiratory problems.

In fact, by measuring the oxygen saturation in the blood, we are able to understand if the values are normal or if, unfortunately, we are developing pneumonia, a serious symptom of Covid. At that point, immediate action must be taken. Covid patients, even without symptoms and respiratory problems, are advised to often measure oxygen saturation, keeping tabs on the evolution of the virus. In fact, this monitoring avoids the danger of silent hypoxia, or a decrease in oxygen without the patient noticing it.

30,000 free pulse oximeters will be distributed in pharmacies

The Italian Pneumology Society, in collaboration with Federfarma, has launched this important initiative. From 11 January 30,000 free pulse oximeters will be distributed in pharmacies to citizens with respiratory diseases. As well as to families in which there is at least one person with respiratory problems.

This initiative involves, according to the Ministry of Health, 1,200 pharmacies throughout Italy, with the aim of making the oximeter known and disseminated. This instrument has become very important in this delicate historical moment. In fact, it is useful in preventing the complications of Covid, to which subjects with respiratory diseases are particularly exposed.

They will therefore be distributed free of charge to patients with respiratory diseases, with priority being given to patients with asthma and chronic and progressive lung disease.
